Lawkim was created to serve the growing market for motors in newly industrialising India!
In 1965 its new factory in Thane launched the manufacturing of hermetic motors for the first time in India with Emerson Electric of the USA. Its customers were the appliance makers of India, including Godrej, Voltas, Kelvinator and Kirloskar for refrigerator compressors and air-conditioner motors.
By 1976 however, recessionary trends sent Lawkim into bankruptcy. In early 1977 the company was acquired by the Godrej Family, ushering in a new era of constructive growth and expansion. With the fresh opportunities ahead the new management team took the company into a new business model. Concentrating on lean manufacturing to mass manufacture popular hermetic motor models, the company was able to capitalize on its experience and domain expertise by investing in the latest manufacturing equipment and toolings to stay ahead of customer demand.
In 1993, Lawkim was among the first companies in the country to qualify for ISO 9001 certification and later re-certification in the updated ISO 9001:2001. It qualified for ISO 14001certification also in 2001. Expanding its range judiciously into models and ratings desired by the growing market.
Today, as part of the Godrej Group, Lawkim continues to offer its customers the best technical products and services. Its internal engineering services business had already expanded over a decade ago to the Engineering industry and its Calibration laboratories in Mumbai, Pune,and Vapi have now been extended to a new laboratory at Chennai, as we drive to offer the best services available in this field through speed of service and technical accreditation at the highest level.
